Mr Rigney used to trade under Topps Rogers Financial Management. He was given a ban and a £117,330 fine in October 2012 after he advised 94 clients to invest a total of £12 million in unregulated investment schemes between 2006 and 2010. These investments were with the Poland Geared Growth property fund.
Clients were originally advised to invest via Royal Skandia bonds with a safe, non-risky spread of investments in various funds, before Mr Rigney forged signatures and switched investments to the Polish fund. For his actions, Mr Rigney was eventually sentenced to seven years in prison for his crimes.
Since his crimes have come to light, many of his customers have attempted to secure more than £2.5 million that was invested through the funds he promoted.
